….Still Going in Hong Kong….

Saturday, still in Hong Kong, we spent the morning at Concordia Middle School (CMS) and Concordia Church, located together. We were given a PowerPoint overview on the work done by Concordia Church, and then met with the current Principal of CMS, Gloria Chan. It’s a beautiful campus that has been forming young people for decades.

Afterwards we made our way up the hill (you can see it in the distance on the top left photo above) to the headquarters of the Lutheran Church Hong Kong Synod (LCHKS). It’s also the location of the LCHKS Literature Department, which publishes Lutheran materials in Cantonese and Mandarin, as well as Concordia Seminary which trains future pastors for the LCHKS.

After a tour and some cordial greetings, we were treated to lunch by LCHKS President Rev. Dr. Allan Yung and Vice-President Rev. Paul Chan. Carol works with the LCHKS extensively and has developed a wonderful relationship with them. The LCHKS has also developed a great appreciation and fondness for Carol. They even worked together to select the dishes for our Hong Kong dim sum luncheon!

Aftewards we visited the Martha Boss Center, an entire building where the LCHKS provides a variety of social services to the people of Hong Kong, ranging from programs for the elderly to pre-kindergarten childcare. We concluded with a meeting with another Paul Chan, who oversees the education program from the LCHKS. He was also good friends with Gena’s parents when they were serving as LCMS missionaries in Asia back in the 70’s. Though she didn’t remember him, he remembered her as an infant and they were both very happy to make a reconnection.

A great day of seeing the Holy Spirit at work throughout Hong Kong, and we were all ready for a good night’s sleep by the time we walked to the subway station and made it back to our hotel!
