Changing Time Zones

We’ve entered the third and final phase of our on-the-road home service visits. We started in Southern California, migrated to the Pacific Northwest, and now have made our way across the country to Chicago. We’re officially a little road-weary at this point. Still happy to be on the move and sharing with congregations and friends and family around the country. But we’ve been on the road a month now non-stop and it does get to you after a while!

We landed in the guest room of my good friend and seminary colleague Rev. Michael Brown. He’s one of very few guys I’ve kept in touch with over the years, and undoubtedly that lies in part with our very similar senses of humor. We’ve visited him multiple times in our travels over the years, but he’s served for years at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Barrington, IL. We’re blessed to not only have a familiar place to stay, but the opportunity to engage with his congregation. And his dogs. Phoebe is the third dog he’s owned that we’ve met in the past 16+ years, and all I know is Michael has a great knack for picking out dogs. Or having dogs pick out him!

I was blessed to preach at St. Matthew as well as have time in Bible study prior to worship to discuss some of the work in Asia.

I’ve learned slowly over the years that good friends are hard to come by and easy to lose track of. I’m grateful for another chance to talk shop, theology, and laugh a lot with this one.
