Our final stop in the Northwest was at Trinity in Bend, OR. Trinity is a century old church and school that recently accomplished a major building program, resulting in a massive new space for worship as well as their senior high classes. Pastor Caleb Adams invited us and I was able to share a brief devotional with their pre-schoolers, K-5th graders, and finally their 6th through 12th graders. Each batch was a huge number of kids, but they were very polite!

Those are not my drums.
And yes, I was by far the frumpiest aspect of the entire morning and location!
In my time with the junior and senior high students, I challenged them to consider overseas mission work if they weren’t sure what the next step in life was going to be. Hopefully that idea sticks with them.
Afterwards I presented on the work in Asia to a Bible study for retired folks. They were very engaged. We met a woman who came to Indonesia after the devastating tsunami in 2004 to do relief work, and spoke with a Honduran man very interested in LCMS mission work in Latin America.

We found this connection due to family friends of Gena and a former college classmate of hers as well, both of whom are now working at the school. We’re grateful to the community of Trinity Lutheran for welcoming us.
