Flooding Follow-Up

Thank you for prayers and inquiries about the Thanksgiving flood in Medan.

We woke the next morning and, thank you God, the rains had abated and the floodwaters had dropped. Our street looked as if nothing had happened. Other than the sight of neighbors shoveling mud out of their homes, the first step in returning to a kind of normalcy. All the locals agreed – they had never seen flooding of this magnitude in the city. Elsewhere in Sumatra there were mudslides and devastated villages. Because of the lack of readily available and reliable local news we don’t know if there were deaths in Medan, but likely not. Just the loss of possessions as people scampered for safety as floodwaters poured into their homes.

We were able to make it to the airport for our flight to Kuala Lumpur and our flight the next day for Hanoi. We’ve had good conversations and fellowship with other Lutherans serving here in Vietnam through Concordia International School Hanoi (CISH). Vietnam and other areas of Asia have also suffered devastating floods this rainy season. Hopefully that is all coming to an end for this year.

Again, thank you for your prayers and concern!
