En Route to St. Louis

We flew from Colorado Springs yesterday towards St. Louis, with a alleged stopover in Dallas-Ft.Worth. However when we landed we discovered our flight to St. Louis had been cancelled because of weather. We struggled to get information from customer service but there was not much to glean. Other than since it was weather-related we were on our own for everything (lodging, food, etc.) except a replacement flight out – at roughly the same time the next day. Such is the nature of travel and quite frankly, given the amount of traveling I do it’s amazing it doesn’t happen more often!

I was able to arrange for accommodations not too far from the airport and we passed a quiet if not completely comfortable night in Texas. For, although we couldn’t possibly have made the next flight to St. Louis that departed a mere 15 minutes after we landed in Dallas, our luggage miraculously did! We weren’t told this until we went to actually get our luggage though. The luggage agent informed us it was on it’s way and would be kept safe for us. In St. Louis. Until we arrived. Tomorrow. However the luggage attendant was the most helpful of all the various employees we interacted with that day – she gave us each a small toiletries kit so we at least wouldn’t have to buy toothbrushes and deodorant and other basics that were all packed away in our checked luggage.

Caedmon was the only one smart enough to pack a change of clothes in his carry-on bag, a lesson he learned a few years ago when our luggage was delayed on another trip by over a week. Glad to know one of us is young enough to learn new tricks! Thankfully we all made it out today ahead of another predicted big storm in Texas and were met at the airport first by our luggage and then by our long-time family friend, Margaret. She brought us to her parents’ home where we would be staying while her parents were still in Papua New Guinea. They’ve been serving in PNG full and part-time for over 50 years now! It was good to be back on schedule, and we were grateful we had a spare day before our first appointments in St. Louis.
